"Welcome to Barkeater Lake" pre-order site

Howdy loyal fans!

For those of you who didn’t receive the last email on the status of Barkeater Lake, welcome! You’ll be glad to know that BL will be continuing at it’s new home http://www.barkeaterlake.com, beginning January 22nd. For now, this url still points to comics.com, but after 1/6, comics.com will no longer run the strip. The new site will include an archive of every strip every printed, a storefront and a yes, a blog. The site will be free of charge, but donations are always greatly appreciated. Each donation of $25 or more will get a signed original sketch of everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic dog, Banks!

And now, for those of you already in the know, the link you’ve been waiting for is here:

http://barkeater.blogspot.com

This is the TEMPORARY page to pre-order the first ever Barkeater Lake book entitled, “Welcome to Barkeater Lake”. After January 22nd, the order page will move to the new site. The book includes over 140 pages of the entire first year of BL, including color Sundays, a forward by Francesco Marciuliano, never before published strips and some commentary by yours truly. Remember, we need a pre-order of 200 books to get enough cash to print a first run. The first 250 books will be signed and numbered, accompanied by an original sketch. ONLY THE FIRST 250 books will be autographed. After that, the only way to get a signed book is at a book signing or through bribes of whiskey and beer.

Thanks to everyone who convinced me to continue BL through your kind words and death threats.

You all rock.

Cheers!

Barkeater Lake UPDATE

Howdy!

Let me begin by saying how touched I am by the overwhelming reaction to the announcement of Barkeater Lake ending on comics.com. I want to personally thank those of you who emailed, wishing me well. It means a great deal. So much that I’ve decided to continue Barkeater Lake on my own. As excited as this sounds, keep in mind it will be a challenge for me, considering the big reason for ending the run on comics.com was due to lack of supporting salary generated from the United Media site. Hopefully sales of the upcoming book collection and new merchandise can stimulate enough cash flow to support continued adventures of Delores, Chuck, Banks and Co.

So, beginning January 22nd, you can find you’re daily dose of Barkeater Lake at www.barkeaterlake.com. Currently, this url points to the comics.com site, but after January 6th, I will own the domain name. The site will offer daily comics, color SUNDAY comics, an archive of every BL strip and a merchandise storefront. Access to the site will be free. I have considered the idea making the strip a subscription service, but I think I need to prove the strip’s value before doing so. There will be a place to donate to the site, with each donation of $25 or more receiving an autographed original drawing of everyone’s favorite flying dog, Banks. There will also be a Barkeater Lake monthly newsletter available, as well as comics delivered to your email.

As for the Barkeater Lake book... It is nearly finished and ready to go to press. Here’s the thing: Print on Demand quality is not up to the standards I’d like the first book to be at, so I’m going the conventional route. This means I need to fork over money up front. So, I’ve decided to do a pre-order of the first book. I anticipate pre-ordering to begin January 2nd. I’ll need at least 200 orders to afford printing of the first edition. The faster this goal is reached, the faster we’ll have a Barkeater Lake book! YAY!

As soon as the book is ready for pre-order, I'll post a link.

I’m very excited about this first book. It includes the entire 1st year of BL, dailies and full color Sundays, some commentary on different strips and a forward by my good friend, Francesco Marciuliano of Medium Large and Sally Forth fame. The first 250 pre-ordered books will be signed with an original sketch.

So that’s the news. We’ll see how it goes on our own. Once again, thank you all for your support of Barkeater Lake. It really is a joy to draw and write. I hope that these new opportunities will afford me the time and attention it deserves.

Cheers!

Everyone has a talent

Bao Xishun

The World's Tallest Man has come to the rescue of two dolphins by reaching his over-sized arms into the porpoises' stomachs to remove plastic shards.

When asked to comment about the ordeal, he was quoted as saying "Um...Ick."

Son of a....

Today we say goodbye to a comedy legend and downright genius, Peter Boyle. I couldn't find the favorite "Raymond" episode where Ray and Deborah have to stay with Frank and Marie while they're house gets de-bugged, so I give you the next best thing...

Rest in Peace, sir.

Barkeater Lake's pending fate

Okay... so I guess I need to do some splainin'...

Yes, as of January 6th, Barkeater Lake will cease to exist on comics.com. The filing deadlines, coupled with the measly salary played the largest part in my decision to end my relationship with United Media. I'm sure there will be future projects will UM in the future, but Barkeater Lake will not be one of them.

Yes, I am reviewing the possibility of continuing Barkeater Lake on my own. I own the www.barkeaterlake.com domain, so it's a definite possibility. The idea of making the strip whatever I want is appetizing.

Yes, I am working on the forever-and-a-day-long production of a Barkeater Lake book. I want it to be as great as the comic was in the first two years, so I'm taking my time.

I will post updates as frequently as I can about a new BL site and the forthcoming book.

I promise.

Cheers,

Corey

Photos from the first JOHNNY show!

Last night's One More for Johnny USO Show was a huge success! Many were saved, some were drunk and a lucky few dubbed heroes.

Please enjoy some photos from the very first Johnny show while we get the latest pics and videos censored for public viewing.

See photos

What did you just ask me?

The Today Show reported this morning that more and more men are taking what're known as "Mancations". Or, more widely known as "Exploring the strange feelings I have for Steve in carpool."

Pay tribute with comedy TONIGHT!

Johnny was there. Sure, he was doing a show around the corner... And sure, it was a show for the sailors stationed in Pearl Harbor. But he was there.

Some may say Johnny's three hour unorthodox one man comedy show was the reason our men and women missed the impending invasion by the Japanese. Some may also say.... uh.... well, MOST would say it's Johnny's fault.

But the point is, our cult hero of comedy was there and he contributed. So come to The St Lawrence Theater tonight at 7:30pm on 76 Congress Street in Portland, ME. We'll raise a glass to Johnny and to the guys and gals of our massive military forces.

Oh, and there'll be sketch comedy, live improv and standup.

Mary Poppins will chop your legs off

This is one of the most scary, disturbing and hilarious things we've seen in a long time. The Rock Star has never been a fan of Mary Poppins but this, this my friends is pure comedy genius.

Great new Sheldon website

Dave Kellet, a former United Media comic strip cohort and creator of "Sheldon", has moved his entire operation to his own site: Sheldon Comics. He's really done an incredible job and it looks like he's getting a good amount of recognition. Dave's comic style is unique and his jokes fresh. You should all try and check it out daily and if you're an inspiring web cartoonist, his site is how it's done right.

Congrats, Dave.

P.S. While you're at it, check out his wife's site, Everything Gloria. A really fun design for quite a talented comedy writer.

Now you owe me a beer, Dave.

Inside the Mucinex mascot creative meeting

Mucinex: "Well, we're looking for a character that encompasses the product's entire range. Like "Dirty Kleenex Guy", or "Polly Post Nasal Drip".

Artist: "Maybe a talking glob of snot?"

Mucinex: "Yes!... But with a lazy squatter's attitude.

Artist (too partner): "Hmmm... Okay, sure. Barry, pull out all our mucus and phlegm samples... And a few of the crusty booger and bloody nose, just for reference"

Look no further for inspiration

Just when I feel like I've created something completely genius, I click on the the link for DRAWN! The Illustration and Cartooning blog. The comics/illustration/animation showcased on there are nothing short of amazingly genius badass.

It angers/frustrates/inspires all at one time. Frankly, it makes my head hurt because, even though I've come so far, I have even farther to go.

Check it out.
