I was kidding.

We’ve been staying at our camp in the Adirondack Mountains for the last week, and last night we got our first snow storm of the evening. Here are some file photos:

Pretty, ain’t it? I love the snow, even if it is before Halloween.

At around 10pm last night, however, we lost power. Which is fine. We have flashlights, candles and a fireplace. I’m a prepared scout. I was working on getting TOBY updated and color and write some Elderberries, so I was miffed at the inconvenience, but whatever. We lose power at camp all the time.

So, as I sat there in the dark, listening to the now snow-top heavy trees fall in the woods, I began to realize how easy it would be to perish in the mountain woods. Our land line phone is cordless, so no worky without power. The furnace has an electric firing device, so no heat, save the wood stove. Cellphones have no service, and without power, there is no Internet. No communication without the outside world, in pitch black darkness. In a blizzard.

I sat there. I thought, what if one of those trees decided to crash through one of the big cathedral windows? How would I handle it? Handle the glass? Handle covering the hole without a ladder?

I sat… And I thought… Meh. I’ll think of something.

Then I had another Saranac Pale Ale and went to bed with my clothes on. Just in case.

I’ve been waiting to use this joke for like a year. I’m so psyched my editors allowed it to pass through.
