The Academy Awards for cartooning are called the Reuben Awards. And just like the Oscars, the Reubens are filled with favoritism and politics. Nevertheless, I’ve always wanted to submit my work. So, with a further declining of newspaper clients, I thought this year should probably be the year.

After combing the 2009 archives for hours, I chose 12 of what I thought were the best ELDERBERRIES comics of the past year. It was not easy.

Sadly, Dusty and friends did not capture a nomination. Neither did CUL DE SAC or POOCH CAFE, which is ludicrous. But, whatever. Awards are dumb. Big, fat dumb jerky awards.
